Ten Scent Questions to ask your next Character

Using character prompts is a creative and effective way to develop well-rounded and engaging characters in any storytelling context, including tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs). Knowing your character before the first dice is rolled is a rewarding experience. It encourages the exploration of unique quirks, motivations, and backstories that may not have been initially considered. As we build our storytelling skills, we aim to foster creativity and seek depth.

This prompt looks at one of the two core areas in this series: Sensory drives.

Like all sensory drives, our senses connect us to the library of our memories and engage us through our characters' use of those senses. Scent supports our capacity to interact with objects or people, determine safety, influence taste, and bring us back to a time that lingers.
